2018 - Ashby Youth for Christ Fort Rocky #LevelUp

On the weekend of 22-25th November we took 3 boys and 2 girls aged between 11-14 away with us to the Pioneer Centre for Youth For Christ’s Fort Rocky weekend. From live roadshows to inflatable fun, outside high ropes to indoor archery, the young people had lots to do and experience with 60+ of their peers from youth groups from across the country.
The theme for this year was #LevelUp, and was based around computer games and the story of Joseph.
We learned about ‘Checkpoints’, save time in the game where, should you die, you will be taken back to. The Young People were encouraged to think about what the checkpoints were in their lives – their safe places to start from again – our’s will always be God and his goodness – and this was what Joseph did, no matter his circumstances.
We also learned about ‘Rage quit’. A point in the game that you cannot seem to get past, and therefore decide to quit! However if you keep on going, you will have learned invaluable skills and techniques that you can share with others to help them and prepare you for what is coming next. Joseph didn’t quit – if he had, what would have happened to Egypt in the famine? The Skills Joseph learned from being a slave and a prisoner, prepared him for the next level in his life. The young people also heard testimonies from the leaders of the group and had sessions on how to handle tough situations, schools and pressure, and self-esteem.
2019-01-12 - AYFC - NewsletterBy the end of the weekend, 2 of our young boys said that they felt they were more open to prayer, and asked us to pray for them. One wanted prayer especially for his maths lessons, which he really struggles with and is often sent out.
Ongoing prayer: all 5 young people want to come back next year, and a few more want to come based on their testimony. Please pray that the young people continue to engage with us in their youth groups and that next year we need a minibus! Please also pray for the young person who wants to do well in maths, that we can find a way to support him and see this situation turned around. Katie
